Biodegradation of plastic polymers by fungi: a brief review

چکیده
Abstract Plastic polymers are non-degradable solid wastes that have become a great threat to the whole world and degradation of these plastics would take few decades. Compared with other processes, biodegradation process is most effective best way for plastic due its non-polluting mechanism, eco-friendly nature, cost-effectiveness. Biodegradation synthetic very slow also involves environmental factors action wild microbial species. In this biodegradation, fungi play pivotal role, it acts on by secreting some degrading enzymes, i.e., cutinase`, lipase, proteases, lignocellulolytic presence pro-oxidant ions can cause degradation. The oxidation or hydrolysis enzyme creates functional groups improve hydrophilicity polymers, consequently degrade high molecular weight polymer into low weight. This leads within days. Some well-known species which show Aspergillus nidulans, flavus, glaucus, oryzae, nomius, Penicillium griseofulvum, Bjerkandera adusta, Phanerochaete chrysosporium, Cladosporium cladosporioides, etc., saprotrophic fungi, such as Pleurotus abalones, ostreatus, Agaricus bisporus eryngii helps in growing them. studies say was more when photodegradation thermo-oxidative mechanisms involved simultaneously make faster easier. present review gives current knowledge regarding different their enzymatic forms polymers.

Polymer Biodegradation and Biodegradable Polymers – a Review
Synthetic polymers are important in many branches of industry, for example in the packaging industry. However, they have an undesirable influence on the environment and cause problems with waste deposition and utilization. Thus, there is a tendency to substitute such polymers with polymers that undergo biodegradable processes. Increasing interest in applying polymers based on natural materials ...
متن کاملMicrobial Degradation of Plastic- a Brief Review
Synthetic polymers are widely used both in food or commercial industry. Plastic, one of its products is known to be expanding with changing lifestyles and increasing population. However, it causes deleterious effects on the environment due to its non degrading nature. Burning of this plastic waste and burying of the plastics releases harmful toxic material which is a major pollutant in environm...
متن کاملBiodegradation of polyester polyurethane by endophytic fungi.
Bioremediation is an important approach to waste reduction that relies on biological processes to break down a variety of pollutants. This is made possible by the vast metabolic diversity of the microbial world. To explore this diversity for the breakdown of plastic, we screened several dozen endophytic fungi for their ability to degrade the synthetic polymer polyester polyurethane (PUR). Sever...

Exhaustive studies on the degradation of plastics have been carried out in order to overcome the environmental problems associated with synthetic plastic waste. Recent work has included studies of the distribution of synthetic polymer-degrading microorganisms in the environment, the isolation of new microorganisms for biodegradation, the discovery of new degradation enzymes, and the cloning of ...
متن کاملBiodegradation of ochratoxin A by fungi isolated from grapes.
Ochratoxin A is a mycotoxin present in several food products for which levels should be reduced. Chemical, physical, and biological methods have been proposed for the detoxification of mycotoxins, biological methods being the more promising ones. In this report, filamentous fungi isolated from Portuguese grapes were assessed for ochratoxin A degradation capabilities. It was observed that 51 of ...
